There is power in the umbilical cord

The umbilical cord connects a baby in the womb to its mother. The baby receives nutrients and oxygen through the cord. Every baby needs a cord in order to survive. Not only does it allow the mother to bond with her child, it also helps in the development of that child.

Why am I discussing umbilical cord?

The truth is, at some stage in our lives, we can all develop an attachment to people or things. We become so dependent on these people, that if somehow they were to leave us our life will come to a stand still.

As stated above the umbilical cord helps in the development of the baby. Are the people we are becoming attached to helping in our development. Are we growing being attached to these people? Do the things we have become attached to support our growth? Is it holding you down more than its allowing you to grow?

You see a baby may depend on the umbilical cord whilst in the mother’s womb, however a time will come where the baby will be born and learn to survive without the attachment of the cord. As a matter of fact, once the baby is born, you’re informed of ways to clean the baby without affecting the cord. You are also told that the cord, will drop on its own within a week after giving birth.

Though the baby has been dependent on the cord for the past nine months or however long your pregnancy lasts, the cord will go at some stage, and the baby learns how to use his other body parts in order to survive.

If anything or anyone around your circle is not supporting your growth or allowing you to grow both physically, spiritually and emotionally, then it’s time to break that cord. I don’t care how long they’ve been attached to you for, but you must make that decision and give yourself permission to grow and develop into the person you were destined to be.

Some of the people we are attached to are destroying our dreams and visions, just by their words, and every single day you allow yourself to listen to their abuse and sooner or later you begin to accept those words for your life. I want you to understand something, You will never grow if your surroundings are not helping you to grow. Life is growth. Now just because I have said life is growth, that does not mean, we won’t experience hardships In between the growth process, however, what will determine your growth is how much you keep pouring into yourself even when no one is willing to pour into you.

There are many things plants need to grow such as water, nutrients, air, water, light, temperature, space, and time. Each of these things contributes in its own way to the development of the plant. Equally, there are many things as human beings, we need in order to grow , but one of the fundamentals I have found to be important is the environment and the people within our compound. I can’t emphasise enough on the importance of having the right people around you helping to nurture your dreams and cultivate your mind.

You may have spent your life being attached to the wrong people, or maybe your scared of growing on your own, but the truth is your strong enough. Believe In yourself and your abilities, and just like a baby learn to use your other body parts in order to survive. No one said life would be easy, but life will always be worth it when you begin to understand your value and who you are as an individual and not what other people define you as.

I also want you to understand, it’s never too late to start again, no matter how old or young you are. I wish you the best as you continue to grow and develop into the person that God created you to be and I pray you may have the strength to cut loose any cords that are not encouraging your growth.
